Wigan sales demonstrate first time buyer hunger

10-Jan-2012

A recent development has sold 16 out of 17 homes to first time buyers in under three months, demonstrating that there is still a hunger to get on the property ladder for the first time, according to Easier Property.

The newly developed homes, built by Redrow in the centre of Wigan, offer a low price on a quality selection of homes, with incentives available to first time buyers wanting to make a purchase. The affordability of the homes has been cited as a key reason for the success of the development.

The sales come after recent figures showed first time buyers are at the lowest for 30 years in some regions.

First time buyers were able to make savings of £3,468 on some homes, in conjunction with a mortgage of £86,636. The remaining share of the property’s full market value of £113,995 is covered by an equity loan, jointly funded by Redrow and the Homes & Communities Agency.

Lesley Myers, area sales manager for Redrow Homes (Lancashire), commented: “The sales success we have seen at College Court is evidence of the demand for affordable homes for first time buyers. Many of our customers have been pleasantly surprised to discover that home ownership is within their reach.”

A government first time buyers scheme can offer shared equity or shared ownership options.
