West Midlands 'needs affordable housing plan'
05-Apr-2006
A prominent rural development figure in the West Midlands has called on the government to do more to tackle the lack of affordable housing in the region.
Dr Stuart Burgess, head of the Countryside Agency, has commented that rural businesses in the area will suffer unless more affordable housing schemes are developed, so as to attract aspiring first time buyers to the area.
Speaking during a visit to the area as part of his national tour, Dr Burgess added that the issue of a lack of affordable housing is mirrored across the country and insisted that the matter is "at the top of the government agenda".
Aspiring first time buyers wanting advice on mortgages, to find out how much they can borrow and how much it will cost, should request advice from the UK’s leading High Street Brokers, Bradford and Bingley Dr Burgess concluded: "The enormous problem is people can't afford to stay in rural areas, there is a lack of transport and services, for example post offices being closed down."
