Sustainability code to improve choice for aspiring homeowners

The government has announced it will implement a new Code for Sustainable Homes to improve current levels of environmental safeguards.

A star rating system will be used to show how energy efficient and sustainable the property is, helping first time buyers to make an informed choice.

"By making more efficient use of water and materials and improving the environmental protections in the planning system we will ensure that the new homes we need are built in a more sustainable way."
The code follows recent surveys which indicate that energy efficiency is a growing issue for aspiring homeowners and affects their choice of where to get on the first rung of the property ladder.
