Despite current plans to remove the flats to make way for larger properties, mounting support for the starter homes scheme may influence the CHA's decisions and boost Carlisle's first time buyers.

"If they went on the market a lot of people would want to purchase them - not only young people but pensioners," Carlisle MP Eric Martlew told Cumbria Online.
"They would be sold at a discount to local people, with a covenant that the same conditions would apply when they were sold on."
The CHA is currently considering the proposals and said it recognised the importance of providing affordable housing options for local people.
