Seaside properties 'vary depending on area'

10-Jul-2009

First-time buyers who like to be beside the seaside might be interested to hear that demand for such properties varies depending on the area.

This is the view of propertyfinder.com's Nicholas Leeming who explained different parts of the population tend to search for accommodation in different places.

Although individuals with mortgages are prepared to relocate to secure a coastal home in certain locations, those in the south are unlikely to move to a town in the north, he noted.

"People in the north of England do make the move to seaside towns in their region, but there aren't swathes of people heading north - despite the improvement in affordability," said Mr Leeming.

This might encourage first-time buyers with a love for the ocean air to contact a mortgage adviser and find out about reasonably priced homes further up the country.

In conclusion, Mr Leeming stated climate is an important factor for many, meaning areas in the south like Christchurch and Dorset are popular.

According to Hometrack, the average cost of a property in June was £155,600.
