Scotland could be tempting for first time buyers

20-Apr-2007

First time buyers could be wise to turn their attention to the Scottish property market as figures show that homes in Scotland are generally much cheaper than the rest of the UK.

While prices are rising rapidly in Scotland they are still relatively low in comparison to those in England and Wales, meaning first time buyers could stand to find a bargain north of the border.

According to the Bank of Scotland, Edinburgh is the only Scottish city to feature in the top ten list of the UK's most expensive places to live, with London unsurprisingly taking the top spot.

Figures from the Department for Communities and Local Government show that in February the average house price in Scotland was just £149,900, compared to£162,200 in Wales and £212,600 in England.

A recent report from Propertyfinder.com reveals that higher houses prices are resulting in a decline in the number of people looking to buy homes, particularly first time buyers.
With this in mine first time buyers could find Scotland to be an attractive place to look.
