SAS base used for affordable housing

Herefordshire Council has formed an agreement with Barratt Homes to provide affordable housing on an old SAS base.

At least 12 new houses are to be built in conjunction with Barratt Homes, which will then be sold at 70 per cent of the market value, providing aspiring homeowners with a generous discount.
Click here for further information on finding a depositThe base has previously been used as an affordable site and has proved popular with first time buyers, with 58 properties currently being used as low-cost, shared and rented accommodation.
"One of our council aims is to put people first and as an authority we're acutely aware of the sharply rising cost of housing and the disparity with the level of wages in Herefordshire," commented councillor Olwyn Barnett.
"These houses will come as good news for those who find themselves trapped and unable to get on the housing ladder."
The 30 per cent discount carries on through every future transaction, allowing the homes to remain affordable for the next generation of aspiring homeowners.
