North is 'attractive' to first time buyers

25-Apr-2007

Northern England is an attractive location for first time home buyers, an expert has claimed.

According to Kate Hamilton from BuyAssociation, as a result of lower property prices compared with southern parts of England, the north may be an attractive location for first time home buyers looking to either become property investors or relocate.

"At the moment everybody's focusing on the fact that it's very difficult for first time buyers to get on the property ladder," said Ms Hamilton.

"[It's] going to be much harder for everybody in the south-east that it will be up north because salaries, even with London weighting, don't compensate for the dramatic difference in price," she added.

Indeed, according to Ms Hamilton, job opportunities in cities such as Leeds and Manchester are broadly similar to those in London.
