New code of practice for Hips

04-Sep-2006

Breaking First Time Buyer News from FirstRungNow: A new code of practice governing home information pack (Hips), will afford first time buyers more confidence when acquiring their first property.

The new code of practice, to be introduced by the Association of Home Information Pack Providers (AHIPP), will provide minimum protection for first time buyers.

The code covers the whole of the Hip and all AHIPP members can subscribe.

Mike Ockenden, director general of the AHIPP, said: "The government has already announced that they will be regulating all Home Inspectors - we are now taking this a step further to provide a voluntary code of practice for pack providers too.

"All members of AHIPP will be subject to stringent standards to ensure consumers purchasing a pack through one of our members can place total confidence in the finished product.

"All of our members' packs will be authenticated with the AHIPP logo and an independent compliance board has been set up to monitor the performance of providers, under the code."

Meanwhile, introduction of Hips could be subject to delays, Jeremy Leaf, a senior member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, has warned.
