New build communities 'benefit eco-friendly first time buyers'
05-Jun-2007
New build communities could provide a housing solution for first time buyers looking for homes that are both affordable and environmentally friendly, it has been claimed.
A need to combat the current housing shortage could be combined with environmental concerns as part of a drive to ensure homes are both sustainable and accessible to those looking to get onto the housing ladder, the Town and Country Planning Association (TCPA) has advised.
"The need for affordable homes continues to be of key importance for many and provides a key development opportunity to enhance the wider sustainability of the neighbourhoods concerned," advised TCPA communications manager Kate Henderson.
"The TCPA's case is that such settlements can provide opportunities for greener and well planned developments but that they must be properly networked into the urban core with public transport and communications links to ensure they perform as part of an integrated cluster," Ms Henderson added.
