NEA working to deliver affordable housing to first time buyers

08-Jun-2007

The North East Assembly has unveiled the results of a study investigating the ways in which providing affordable properties for first time buyers can be integrated into housing policies in north-east England, it has been revealed.

The study, carried out by storeys:ssp, will see planning and sustainable development issues combined as part of an update of regional housing strategy.

Among the report's recommendations is the creation of an affordable housing team within each local authority as well as creating a template for housing agreements.

"In one district of Northumberland, Alnwick, where the affordability issue is arguably most acute, the council has appointed a strategic and affordable housing officer to lead on the issue and has set up a home seekers register for those seeking affordable housing in the district," noted Mark Brooker from storeys:ssp.

The North East Housing Board (NEHB) is also consulting with organisations from across the region, it was recently revealed.
