Nationwide confirms commitment to UK-based call centres

07-Mar-2007

In news which may be of interest to prospective first time buyers, Nationwide Building Society has confirmed its commitment to UK-based call centres.

The announced comes after Barclays' decision to relocate a Manchester-based call centre to India and may act to reassure first time buyers with reservations relating to telephone-based customer support.

Indeed, research by the lender has found that 84 per cent of people would be less likely to use a company's products and services if there were aware of the firm using non UK-based operations.

"Contact with our customers is a vital part of our service and we firmly believe it is in their interests to operate our call centres in the UK," said Stuart Bernau, executive director at Nationwide.

"We believe our strategy is the right one," he added.

Nationwide Building Society maintains five UK-based call centres in locations that include Sheffield, Swansea and Swindon.

The lender offers a range of financial products and services, including mortgages.
