NAEA releases new housing survey

19-Jun-2009

A month on from National Association of Estate Agents (NAEA) chief executive Peter Bolton-King saying that first-time buyer confidence in the property market has improved, the organisation has released more positive housing market news.

Its housing survey for May shows that the average estate agent in the UK sold ten properties during the month - that is 30 per cent higher than the same month last year.

NAEA figures also indicated that the average branch has 299 house hunters on its books, some of whom were first-time buyers looking to get on the property ladder.

More people were registered at estate agents that April, but the above figure was an increase of 52 on May 2008.

Gary Smith, chairman of the NAEA, said: "With mortgage interest rates at historically low levels and prices now far more realistic than in previous years, home ownership in the UK seems to be set to lead the way out of the recession."
