N&P announces plans 'to offer green mortgages'

22-Mar-2007

In news which may be of interest to would-be first time buyers, Norwich and Peterborough (N&P) Building Society has announced plans to offer green mortgages.

Following moves by other lenders to react to the new realities of climate change, N&P has confirmed it will be soon offering a new range of green mortgage products, which may interest prospective first time buyers looking to reduce their overall impact on the environment.

"This is not a competition - all lenders should provide green mortgages," said Alison Rolls, head of communications at N&P.

"As lenders we have an obligation to make homebuyers aware that there is a great deal they can do to reduce emissions by saving energy at home," she added.

Although N&P does offer a range of carbon neutral mortgages, these are currently only available through The Carbon Neutral Company.

N&P offers a range of financial products and services, including credit cards and individual savings accounts.
