Mortgage 'could suit green first-time buyers'
22-Dec-2006
First time buyers interested in eco-friendly products could wish to consider a new "unique" mortgage, one expert has claimed.
The new mortgage, launched by the Ecology Building Society, is offered to first-time buyers with an environmentally friendly property and promises to offer lower rates of interest.
Jenny Irwin, spokesperson for the Ecology Building Society, said that the new product is the UK's first energy efficient mortgage.
However, not all first-time buyers will qualify - only those with green properties, she warned.
"If they were going for our mortgage and were only going to put in a green light bulb they wouldn't qualify for the mortgage," remarked Ms Irwin.
"But, as I said, we take each case on merit and as it comes."
In addition to first-time buyers, the society offers mortgages for retired individuals and those looking to buy-to-let.
