Mortgage advice may help number of home loans rise further
13-Apr-2010
An increased number of people may have been receiving mortgage advice recently, after new figures showed the number of home loans being advanced is on the rise.
The Council for Mortgage Lenders (CML) statistics revealed some 35,000 deals were completed in February - up 12 per cent on the previous month.
January's levels were, by the CML's own admission, particularly low due to factors such as the end of the stamp duty holiday and the poor weather.
But such an increase symbolises a recovery in the market - which may be good news for those hoping to buy a home.
Good quality mortgage advice could be the most effective way to ensure joining the statistics and securing a home loan.
The organisation is also predicting a brighter future, with head of research Bob Pannell saying: "The new stamp duty exemption for
first-time buyers could boost the market somewhat and we hope to see the traditional seasonal pick-up as the weather gets warmer and the days get longer."
Chancellor Alistair Darling raised the stamp duty threshold for
first-time buyers to £250,000 last month.
