As housing prices remain high, many aspiring first time buyers are finding park homes – which cover everything from static caravans to more permanent structures that resemble bungalows – an affordable option to get a foot on the first rung of the ladder.

And as the government looks for a solution to the growing housing crisis, ministers are increasingly considering developing more park homes that can be sold off as affordable housing.

Despite some concerns that the properties are no substitute for bricks and mortar, many people recognise that British park homes are a quite different to the "trailer trash" concept of American park communities.

Joan Clark, director general of the British Holiday and Home Parks Association (BH&HPA), explains: "It is a very nice form of housing. It builds a very settled form of community."

As the opinion towards park homes begins to change, both among the public and the government, aspiring homeowners could find the mobile dwellings as the perfect alternative, particularly as they can be picked up for as little as £20,000.
