Married couples struggle to get onto the property ladder

An increasing number of young married couples would like to own their own home but cannot afford to get on the housing ladder.
For our first time buyers guide to buying a property click hereAround 25 per cent of married renters do not have the financial ability to move from renting to home ownership, says the study by Alliance and Leicester, while just one in ten of all couples can afford to purchase a property.
Figures also showed that 30-somethings are struggling to move up the ladder, with 39 per cent unable to fulfill their property-owning dreams.

"A new year signals new hopes and dreams for prospective homebuyers. The housing market continues to be buoyant so those who are looking to buy or move house should not lose hope," explained Stephen Leonard director of mortgages at Alliance & Leicester.
The survey found that living with parents was still a popular option for many aspiring homeowners, as they tried to save up for a deposit and avoid renting.
"Living at home with parents provides many with a great opportunity to save towards a deposit on their first home," Mr Leonard added.
