London's first time buyers head for Stratford
14-Mar-2005
New statistics have revealed that London's first time buyers should look to Stratford to get the most for their money.
A new report has been compiled highlighting the best and worst areas of London in which to buy a property for the first time.
To be considered for the report, locations needed to be within an hour of the city centre on commuter lines.
of all the areas that were looked at by the survey, the Evening Standard has revealed that London's suburbs offer the first time buyer with the best opportunity to get on the property ladder.
Top of the list of realistic targets for first-time buyers were those that were found by the study to combine reasonable property prices with good transport links into the city.
Those that managed to satisfy these criteria to the highest degree were Stratford in east London, Welwyn Garden City in Hertfordshire, East Croydon in south London, Romford in Essex and Slough in Berkshire.
Stratford should benefit from the biggest regeneration project as part of the London 2012 developments, and is one of the few locations close to the centre of London where it is still possible to acquire a property for less than £200,000.
