Investors 'need to take fewer risks'

02-Sep-2008

With the economy looking so uncertain at the moment, investors need to be more secure and take fewer risks, an expert suggests.

Recent research from Lloyds TSB shows stock market investors are moving money to more cautious investments, with 28 per cent doing so in the past six months.

Adrian Lowcock, senior investment advisor at Bestinvest, says there are problems with the current situation.

"There is the concern about the performance of the underlying companies, as the economy weakens profitability of the economy will fall. There is a bit of a lag effect," he states.

A downturn in the economy has been predicted by the stock market, he continues, which will begin to pick up once a brighter future for the economy is seen.

Consumers are urged by Mr Lowcock to ensure they have the right savings so they do not lose any money invested in a few years' time.

The same survey by Lloyds TSB revealed 53 per cent of investors feel apprehensive about the stock market over the next year.
