Increased numbers 'plan to move' in 2007
29-Dec-2006
Research from Savills suggests that about 16 per cent of those who currently own property plan on moving to a new house in 2007, with almost two-thirds (65 per cent) intent on seeking a new property within the next decade.
Yolande Barnes, director of Savills research, told easier.com: "The survey, which was sent to a random sample of UK households, also shed some interesting light on to what motivates homeowners into moving. The overriding reasons can be neatly summed up as 'aspirational'.
"With well over half of all the respondents quoting a desire to move to a better quality or bigger property and or a better neighbourhood as the key driver.”
The research also found that the new build market has had an effect on the buyer market, with 70 per cent of households considering a new purchase saying they would prefer a house newly built.
However, the study did add that the British appetite for new property is not matched by the actual number of people who will move, as only ten per cent of those who want to buy
new properties will do so.
In related news house price inflation has risen above general expectations, with property values rising by 12 per cent in December, according to Nationwide.
