House purchasers 'should' check property search data
22-May-2007
Those considering the purchase of a new property - which may potentially include first time home buyers - should scrutinise the data from property searches, it has emerged.
According to the Council for the National Land & Property Information Service (C-NLIS), those considering the merits of a new home should evaluate a number of search results, including parking restrictions, in addition to prohibitions relating to building, which may interest first time home buyers.
"Local Authority searches are very comprehensive and can unearth a whole host of issues," said Jan Boothroyd, deputy chief executive of C-NLIS.
"Many affect the property irrespective of location, but some key ones are particularly relevant when buying a property in either a town or a countryside location," she added.
Indeed, according to the C-NLIS, homebuyers considering a property in a rural area should be wary of the presence of land requiring remediation, in addition to any plans for road development.
The C-NLIS directly manages the National Land & Property Information Service.
