House prices 'force first time buyers out of Scotland's cities'
24-May-2007
Rising prices in Scotland's larger cities are likely to force first time home buyers further away from their boundaries, it has been claimed.
According to Ken Mitchell, chairman of Edinburgh Residential, first time home buyers are currently in a position where they are obliged to purchase their first home further away from Scotland's big city locations.
"You're caught between a rock and a hard place unfortunately - first time buyers have no option but to accept whatever hits them," said Mr Mitchell.
"That boundary moves further out of the city every year, as every year goes on," he added.
Among the locations where house prices are continuing to rise include Dundee and Aberdeen, where costs are influenced by the performance of the oil industry, according to claims made by Mr Mitchell.
