Those with "credit-impaired" backgrounds have often found it difficult to locate a mortgage agreement in order to afford their ideal home but High Street lenders have recently increased their range of options.

Leeds Building society offers varying rates on its mortgages, taking in to account the degree of previous credit problems, and provides both fixed rate and discounted deal options.

The Prospect range by Chelsea Building Society provides aspiring homeowners with competitive mortgages, despite poor credit histories, and is prepared to lend up to 90 per cent of the property value.

A number of other lenders and specialist mortgage brokers can also help to find a suitable deal, regardless of your previous problems.
