Green solutions 'could help property market'
29-Aug-2008
Keeping the property market moving could lie with energy efficient homes, a new report suggests.
Research from the Energy Saving Trust shows that kerb appeal may soon be replaced with carbon appeal, with 53 per cent of homeowners saying they would be willing to pay extra for environmentally friendly features in their home.
Jon McGowan, of the Energy Saving Trust, says: "It is encouraging to see the extent of which green measures have become a central factor when buying and selling houses."
He also describes energy efficient homes as "a great way" to make sure bills are kept to a minimum in the future.
Some estate agents, however, are under-selling carbon-friendly homes through a lack of knowledge.
Two-thirds of those questioned said that in light of the current economic climate, they would be willing to improve their Energy Performance Certificate to ensure lower running costs.
Energy Performance Certificates inform homeowners how energy efficient their property is on a scale of A-G.
