First time homebuyer news: Affordable homes scheme for Swansea

23-May-2006

Plans for almost 700 new homes have been unveiled for Swansea with half of them aimed at first-time homebuyers.

Barratt Homes is planning to build more than 200 one-bedroom flats, which are expected to cost £80,000 each, reports the BBC.

These homes will be built as part of the new Morfa village near the Liberty Stadium, with 564 properties to be built on the old Addis factory site.

A planning application has now been submitted for this site and it is thought that a mix of waterside apartments and town houses overlooking the river Tawe will be constructed.

These so-called i-pads are a series of 381 sq ft starter homes, which are a first in Wales for Barratt.

"The i-pad forms an integral part of the scheme because we are introducing over 200 low-cost first-time buyer starter-units," Andrew Crosby of Barratt told the BBC.

A further 120 homes aimed at first-time buyers have also been planned for the site of the old Vetch football ground.

More than 1,000 properties for aspiring homeowners have already been built at the city's SA1 development in the maritime quarter.
