First time home buyer news: Calls for Irish affordable homes solution
31-May-2006
Calls have been made for developers in Ireland to come up with solutions to provide affordable homes for first-time home buyers.
This comes after an Irish company scooped an award for designing a home that cost less than €90,000, reports the Dublin People.
Kingspan Century picked up the award for their energy efficient, low-cost, two-bedroom homes.
"The provision of affordable housing is a huge problem all over Ireland," Ciaran Cuff, town deputy of Dun Laoghaire told the newspaper.
"We need action from our government to deal with our social and affordable housing crisis," he continued.
He went on to say that it would be a "major boost" to local authorities if homebuilders could come up with innovative solutions for providing affordable housing.
Deputy Cuff is now calling on the government to introduce a scheme to stimulate the development of high quality, low-cost homes for first-time home buyers in Ireland.
