First-time buyers need mortgage advice 'more than ever'

16-Jun-2008

The first few months of this year saw an increasing number of first-time buyers turn to mortgage advisers, it has been confirmed.

Representatives for the Association of Mortgage Intermediaries (AMI) suggested that the latest figures indicate how much consumers value professional mortgage advice.

"During this difficult period consumers need advice more than ever," remarked Chris Cummings, director general of the organisation.

"In the first quarter of this year, over 80 per cent of first-time buyers used an intermediary - a ten per cent increase on the previous year," he continued.

The re-mortgage markets also saw intermediary business up by ten per cent."

Peter Williams, the executive director of the Intermediary Mortgage Lenders Association, pointed out last month that mortgage advice services are an invaluable aid, particularly for first-time buyers attempting to navigate a "bewildering" market place.

Media coverage of the credit crunch and ongoing economic uncertainty has a significant influence on many people's decision to seek advice, according to research by Alliance and Leicester.
