Estate agents turn to affordable homes market

14-Oct-2005

An increase in the number of first time buyers finding themselves priced out of the property market has led to calls for the property industry to focus on the affordable homes market.

Estate agents have responded to this need and are increasing their services in this area, helping more aspiring homeowners to find a suitable property.

International estate agents Knight Frank believes that adapting the focus of the property industry is vital and has created an in-house affordable housing team to meet the needs of potential buyers.

The team is responsible for brokering agreements between private firms, housing authorities and landowners to develop more sites for new houses, as well as providing advice and help to aspiring homeowners.

Other property firms, such as Savills, have also branched out in to the affordable property market, increasing the range of options available to potential house buyers.

This expansion in to the market follows increased calls for more action from the government and the housing industry to tackle the shortage of lower cost homes in the UK.
