Eco-friendly modular homes unveiled

30-Apr-2009

Property developer Viridis Homes has unveiled a new house that has been designed with the environment in mind.

The buildings cost just £81,703 each and can be erected in 48 hours, as they are made from different modules that can be assembled relatively quickly.

Alex Jubb, managing director of Viridis Homes, said the modular properties represent leap forward in sustainable design and engineering.

In addition, he said they could a highly affordable option for those who are struggling to afford a traditional residence, such as first-time buyers.

"As the UK's first modular home of this standard we hope to show the way forward to a cheaper and greener future," Mr Jubb commented.

He added that this innovation could enable social housing providers to meet government targets on creating new and affordable housing in the UK.

The announcement comes after housing intelligence group Hometrack highlighted the importance of attracting new buyers into the market.

Director of research Richard Donnell said getting people on to the first rung of the property ladder is vital for the sector to grow.
