Demand to drive house prices in Scottish suburbs
16-Jan-2008
Demand will continue to outstrip supply in the suburbs of Scotland's major cities, driving
house price inflation this year.
That is the view of Grant Robertson, director of Allied Surveyors, who tipped parts of Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Inverness to buck the downturn expected to hit Britain's housing market.
Most analysts are expecting
house prices to slow overall this year, with the Nationwide building society predicting zero per cent growth.
But while Mr Robertson expects some areas to suffer over-supply issues, the most desirable post codes are set to continue to prosper.
"Aberdeen, obviously on the back of the oil boom, is performing well, as indeed is Inverness," Mr Robertson said.
"Glasgow and Edinburgh will see the suburbs and 'traditional' housing areas - like Glasgow's west end - tend to continue to perform quite well."
Nationwide figures also showed that Aberdeen was among the top-performing British cities for
house price growth last year, second only to Belfast.
