Calls made for more affordable housing

The government has been urged to follow through with its promise to construct more affordable housing in the UK and ensure it is made available to the right people.

According to Katy John, spokesperson for the campaign for affordable house prices PricedOut.org.uk, there are around one million first-time buyers waiting for the cost of bricks and mortar to drop to a level that suits them.

Moreover, it is "important" that the government does construct three million new-build property by 2020, as has been pledged.

"We urge the government to continue building more homes for those people currently requiring decent housing," Ms John stated.

Earlier this week, the government revealed plans to invest £1.5 billion over the next two years on producing 20,000 new energy-efficient and affordable homes, as well as creating thousands of employment opportunities.

Dubbed the Building Britain's Future plan, the initiative comes after the Department of Energy and Climate Change announced that all homes will have smart meters fitted in them by 2020.
