Burnley is 'the best' in the north-west
15-Sep-2006
According to the Royal Bank of Scotland's First Time Buyer Index, Burnley is attractive because of its low average house prices and extensive redevelopment generated by a number of redevelopment programmes, reports the Lancashire Telegraph.
"There is no doubt about it … because of the improvements that are planned and because it is quite accessible now, Burnley is a good place to visit," said Barbara Goldsmith, owner of Stratford Properties, a London-based property firm.
"Because prices are cheaper, parts of Burnely are better to buy in than parts of Manchester," she added.
In 2005, a number of properties sold for around £10,000, although the average house price in Burnley is now closer to £70,000.
The bank's First Time Buyer Index ranks cities and towns according to a number of factors, including the number of planned new-builds, the price-to-earnings ratio, good transportation links and plans for regeneration.
Based upon these criteria, Lindley, near to Huddersfield has been identified by the index as England's ideal location for property purchases.
