Britons 'are on the move'

In news which may be of interest to first time home buyers, new survey data shows that the average Briton is likely to move homes six time over the course of their life.

Indeed, according to survey data released by Halifax Estate Agents, for each of the six moves, 48 per cent of respondents believe it to be the duty of existing residents to introduce themselves to the new neighbours, who may or may not be recent first time buyers.

The survey was conducted in February by GfK NOP with a sample of 958 adults.

"Good neighbourhood relationships can be invaluable, for instance having someone to keep an eye on the house or feed the cat whilst you're away," said Colin Kemp, managing director for Halifax Estate Agents.

"It would be heart warming to think that there will continue to be some sense of community spirit in towns and villages across the UK," he added.

However, 18 per cent of respondents admitted to feeling that it was the duty of the new neighbours to introduce themselves.
