British Gas energy price cuts come into force

12-Mar-2007

Recently announced price cuts by British Gas have now come into force, which may be of interest to prospective first time buyers looking to find a low-cost energy provider.

Following British Gas's price reduction - which could benefit prospective first time buyers on a tight budget - prices for electricity have been reduced by 11 per cent, while gas charges have been cut by 17 per cent, reports the BBC.

"As wholesale costs have fallen sharply in recent months, a price cut from British Gas is not before time," said Karen Darby, chief executive of Simplyswitch.

"This is a step in the right direction and will help the many families who struggle to pay their energy bills," she added.

Indeed, following the price cuts the average cost of an annual dual fuel bill with British Gas has now reduced to £953.

The UK energy market is serviced by a number of gas and electricity providers, including Countrywide Energy and Atlantic Electric and Gas.
