Award for first-time buyer scheme

26-Feb-2008

A national award has been given to a Redrow housing scheme that offered homes to first-time buyers for less than £50,000.

The initiative in Rugby was the first development to incorporate the Debut product range, which is directly aimed at first-time buyers trying to get onto the property ladder.

It has now been bestowed with a commendation in the 'renewed neighbourhoods" category of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) planning awards.

Alan Dorn managing director of Redrow Homes (Midlands) says: "We are delighted that the significance of Debut at Willans Green has been recognised by the RTPI. This development made home ownership achievable to people, who would otherwise have been unable to take that first step onto the property ladder."

He added that the success of the scheme led to the mortgage range becoming an "established part" of Redrow's products with schemes being implemented in south Wales, Yorkshire and Lancashire.

Redrow trades from ten regional companies across England, Scotland and Wales, and employs some 1,350 people.
