Ahipp launches new code of practice for Hips

19-Jan-2007

The Association of Home Information Pack Providers (Ahipp) has announced the launch of a new home information pack (Hip) code of practice that may reassure first time buyers.

Although not mandatory, the new code of practice will ensure a minimum set of established standards that will potentially ensure that first time buyers are confident about the quality of their new home.

The code of practice will be made available to all Hip providers and will carry professional indemnity insurance to ensure the swift resolution of disputes or difficulties should they occur.

"The consumer will be able to place total confidence in any HIP purchased through providers adhering to the code," said Mike Ockenden, director general of Ahipp.

"It is vital that the providers of Hips and all those professional people involved in compiling them are seen as trustworthy people with impeccable integrity," he added.

All monitoring of the code of practice will be conducted by the Property Codes Compliance Board.

Established in 2005, Ahipp was set up in order to represent providers of the new Hips.
