Affordable housing targets on track

Government targets for an increase in the number of affordable homes schemes across the UK should be met, according to a new report on the progress of the constructions industry.
Click here for our first time buyers guide to buying a propertyThe report, conducted by the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) and the Home Builders Federation (HBF), indicated that the "expansion of the house building industry" was looking positive and that there were adequate skills within the sector to ensure targets were met.
An increase in affordable housing opportunities enables more aspiring homeowners to get a foot on the first rung of the property ladder, instead of being priced out of the market.
To find out more about creative mortgages designed specifically for first time buyers click hereOver 20 of the UK's major house building firms were surveyed and, responding to the results, Robert Ashmead, chief executive of the HBF, said: "This analysis clearly demonstrates that the industry is not only keen, but also able to deliver the rates of increased building."
Mr Ashmead confirmed that the outlook for future housing schemes was positive and urged the government to continue backing the initiatives and "help create the conditions whereby the industry can deliver."
