Affordable housing planned for Canary Wharf

01-Sep-2005

Aspiring first time buyers in London are used to being priced out of the market, and having to settle for properties in less desirable areas of the city.

However, one developer could be about to change that, after submitting a planning application to build affordable housing in the prestigious Canary wharf area.

Developer Ballymore has submitted plans for an ambitious project to transform the London Arena site into the Isle of Dogs' largest housing complex, complete with nearly 300 affordable housing units.

Although previous applications for the site have been turned down by Tower Hamlets Council, this is the first time that the plans have included provision of so many affordable housing units.

The proposals therefore stand a much greater chance of getting through, as the region looks to build a sustainable future for the regenerated Docklands, and provide aspiring homeowners with the opportunity to get onto the first rung of the housing ladder.
