Affordable housing on the up

18-Apr-2005

Builders across the UK are showing signs of improved sales on the back of the government's drive to increase the amount of affordable housing.

Many builders are posting healthy profits and burgeoning future sales, as affordable housing and key worker homes become vital to the challenge of providing aspiring first time buyers with the opportunity to buy their own home.

One example of this process is building and infrastructure group Morgan Sindall, which has seen a boom in the number of affordable houses that its affordable housing arm, Lovell, is now building.

Lovell has revealed a profits increase of more than 50 per cent as the demand for affordable housing has shot up.

That demand is coming from a number of directions - politicians, aspiring first time buyers and key workers are all campaigning for the number of homes available at a low price to be dramatically increased.

As Morgan Sindall's chairman, John Morgan, commented in a statement: "The outlook for the affordable housing market remains positive."
