01-Jul-2005

Environmentally-conscious first time buyers in Surrey are getting a major opportunity to buy an affordable home with the latest green features.

The recently-opened Overlord Court development, in Fetcham, has houses that collect rainwater for use in the home, as well as harvest energy from the sun.

Although most homes with such features would be out of the reach of all but the wealthiest first time buyers, the £2.2 million development has been undertaken with financial support from Mole Valley District Council.

The modern development is likely to be followed at other sites around the country, as more first time buyers become conscious of environmental issues and look to play their part in protecting the environment.

Aspiring first time buyers can already purchase so-called 'green mortgages', which have proved popular, and green affordable housing developments have the advantage of fulfilling two government targets of creating more housing for first time buyers and increasing the number of environmentally-friendly homes in the country.
