Affordable homes objective for Northern Ireland
05-Jul-2005
The government has announced that the creation of affordable housing in Northern Ireland is to become one of its major aims in the region in the coming months.

Speaking as he launched Housing in Settlements, the government's planning policy for the region, Mr Woodward put forward his plans to turn the province into a haven for aspiring first time buyers looking for affordable housing.
Echoing Chancellor Gordon Brown's comments in his Budget speech earlier this year, Mr Woodward explained: "We want to see more people own their own homes and, whilst it is not possible for government to deal with all the issues which surround the provision of affordable housing, there are ways in which we can help."
However, Mr Woodward pointed out that the creation of affordable housing would only augment the government's main objective of introducing the co-ownership scheme announced in the Budget.
