Advice issued to first-time buyers

16-Jun-2009

The cost of property should drop again in the coming months, according to the campaign for cheaper house prices PricedOut.org.uk.

With this in mind, spokesperson for the organisation Katy John advised first-time buyers to bargain hard when they are purchasing bricks and mortar.

If prices do drop, those looking for their first property will be in a stronger position, she said.

Ms John commented: "For too long, house prices in the UK have been too high, pushing first-time buyers out of the market, only to be replaced by buy-to-let landlords who see properties as assets rather than, as they should be seen, as homes."

Halifax and Nationwide Building Society have both recently reported an upturn in the cost of housing in the UK, but the spokesperson for the campaign group called this a "slight blip" for first-time buyers.

Land Registry figures from earlier this year support Ms John's views. The organisation recently revealed that the total number of property sales in February was 25,592, compared to 51,121 exactly one year before.
