Aberdeen biggest price rise for 'first time buyers'

27-Dec-2006

First time buyers considering purchasing Scottish property may be interested to know that Aberdeen has seen the largest increase in property prices in 2006, according to new figures.

An average rise of 27 per cent was recorded over the period - bringing the typical price to £171,767, which may mean that some first time buyers find houses tougher to afford, statistics from the Bank of Scotland have revealed.

Additionally, increases of over 25 per cent were seen in Kilmarnock and Motherwell, although Edinburgh remains the most expensive place to find a property in Scotland.

The average price of a property in the city is £202,941, a 12 per cent rise from the £180,834 in the previous year.

Recent figures from the British Bankers' Association revealed that a record level of mortgage activity was seen in November, with a £6.5 billion increase.
