'More' households turn to domestic help

12-Apr-2007

Householders - which may include recent first time home buyers - are increasingly requiring the assistance of domestic helpers, new research suggests.

According to a study by Barclays Premier Banking, with 70 per cent of respondents - which may include recent first time home buyers - asserting that there is not enough time to perform household tasks, 27 per cent either have or would consider having staff to help with work around the home.

"In the 21st century we are all trying to cram as much into our lives as possible and will think nothing of taking on the help we need to do this," said Jane Parry, director of marketing at Barclays Premier Banking.

"Employing someone to help with the house, the garden or the kids is viewed as a necessity rather than a luxury," she added.

Indeed, of the group of respondents who do employ staff for household chores, 30 per cent employ staff to tend the garden, while 16 per cent pay for someone to do their ironing.

Barclays Premier Banking offers products and services to customers earning over £100,000 per year or who are able to invest at least £50,000.
