'Insufficient research a common problem' when buying overseas
25-May-2007
In news which may be of interest to first time buyers considering an overseas investment, insufficient research is a common problem when investing overseas, it has been claimed.
According to Kate Hamilton, a representative from BuyAssociation, property investors - which may include first time home buyers - should thoroughly research the property they are planning to purchase.
"The most common [mistake] is people not doing their research - in the industry it's called 'leave your brain on the plane syndrome'," said Ms Hamilton.
"The simple [advice] is stick to the basic buying rules that you'd use in the UK. Make sure that you go and visit the property," she added.
Ms Hamilton also advised investors familiarise themselves with the legal peculiarities of the country being invested in.
